Choosing to be a member of the Catholic Church means that we agree to continuing the mission that Jesus began. It means that we try to become more like the person God wants us to be. To do this we need to take on the heart and mind of Jesus.
It's a bit like a flower that takes on coloured water. It slowly but surely changes the way the flower looks. We too can change if we allow God to work in our lives. Here's an activity you might like to try that demonstrates how you can be transformed and take on a new life.
As Christians we call this responsibility our mission. This is what God calls us to do to live full lives: God asks us to use our gifts to help others in our worldwide family to thrive and flourish. Pope Francis says, “Mission is never the fruit of a perfectly planned program or a well-organized manual. Mission is always the fruit of a life which knows what it is to be found and healed, encountered and forgiven. Mission is born of a constant experience of God’s merciful anointing.” Come up with a list of five things that you can do over the next week that show you want to be more like Jesus in your actions:
Here are some ideas to get you started: Helping someone who is sick with cleaning or shopping, visiting someone who you know is lonely or struggling with things, welcoming people to mass with a genuine smile, offering to do a chore for someone in your family without expecting to have it repaid. |
