Jesus - Fully Human

A child born into a refugee family.

A vulnerable baby born into this world - just like you!

The son of Mary and Joseph a builder.

He lived in Palestine (Israel) - we live in New Zealand.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

When Jesus was a kid he lived most of his life in Nazareth.

As an adult Jesus went to Capernaum, he walked on water at the Sea of Galilee and he died near Jerusalem.

Where were you born?

Where have you lived?

Talk with your parents about places they have gone and things that they have done.  It might have been for work or for a holiday, sometimes even just to travel.

Jesus learned from his church community and his family.

Jesus was like us in every way ... except in sin.

THINK AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE THINGS BELOW THAT SHOW JESUS WAS FULLY HUMAN.

How does it make you feel to think that Jesus would get, hungry, thirsty and tired?

Did you know that just like you he enjoyed spending time with friends,  and relationships were very important to him?

Do you think that Jesus needed to be loved
and part of a community/family like you and me?

Do you think that Jesus would feel pain if he twisted his ankle or jammed his thumb in a door?

Do you think he would be hurt if a friend was mean to him or let him down?

JESUS DIED.
Jesus is fully human!

Jesus - Fully Divine

Fully Divine means that Jesus is GOD!

Born as part of God's plan

Picture
LUKE 1:39-45
39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.  41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.  42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!  43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.  45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
God sent Jesus to earth to build God's kingdom here.
God has a plan!!
This means that we can be hopeful that God has a hand in everything that is happening,
even if at times we do not understand it.

Jesus is the Son of God

Matthew 16:16 You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.

Mary knew that Jesus was God's son because the angel Gabriel  told her.
This happened at the Annunciation.

Jesus Performed Miracles

Jesus performed many miracles and they were recorded in the gospels.
He performed these miracles to show that there is a power greater than us, the miracles are a sign of something more!
They also fill us with wonder which points us towards something extraordinary!

The miracles focus us on the divinity Christ!

The second person of the Trinity.

Jesus is the second person of the mystery we call the Holy Trinity.

The Trinity, is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit.

Catholics believe that they are EQUALLY 3 persons in 1 God.

Remember that Jesus has two natures a human nature and a divine nature. Being of the Trinity is a sign of Christ's divinity.

Picture
The idea of the Trinity is a difficult one to understand. It is not necessary to figure it all out, but it is important to remember that God is loving community.

The flow between, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is essential to the understanding of Trinity, and to the understanding of love.

The very nature of God is relationship, a natural relatedness and a perfect communion.
To explore Trinity some more check out the Trinity section.

Jesus is more than just a good guy!

Don't get me wrong ... Jesus was a good guy, but he was so much more than that.
Jesus became human so that we could understand LOVE.
He wanted to show us how to LOVE God and how to LOVE each other.
Jesus came to build God's kingdom here on earth.

God was able to be with us through Jesus in a new way, and Jesus was able to show us how to live a new way of life...
God's way

Jesus is transfigured - now that's a bit more than just being a good guy!

Another sign of the godliness of Christ!

Jesus lives!

The Resurrection above all constitutes the confirmation of all Christ's works and teachings.

CCC 651
When God raised Jesus from the dead it showed that there is no greater power than the LOVE of God.
This action gives us HOPE.
Jesus' resurrection proves that all he did while human was true.
Neither death nor sin have power over us - we are free to live full lives of mercy and  love just as Jesus did!
