God uses the Bible to speak to people.
Sometimes God speaks directly to people and at other times God speaks through angels or others.

Some examples of God speaking in scripture ...
Below are some examples of God talking to Moses and Mary.
In both cases the message from God was clear,
but often that is not the case for us.
We have to spend time in prayer and try to
figure out exactly what God is saying .

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary
38 Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
As you begin imagine God sitting and looking at you. Imagine God sitting with you.
Be aware of how you are. How are you feeling? How is your body? Tell God what is going on.
What are you hoping will happen during this prayer time?
Do you want to meet God? Tell God what you want.
Begin to picture this story in your mind.
Jesus is there and Martha and Mary. There may be other friends there as well. The house is made of yellowish white stone and clay, the day is warm. In the middle of the room on a mat sits a low table.
Who are you in this story? are you one of the characters, or are you a friend watching?
The story begins with Jesus walking into a village. It has 50 or so simple houses. It may be surrounded by trees, perhaps a wall. Are there children playing in the streets, animals wandering and women and men going about their work? Imagine the village.
Jesus is welcomed into the house. Imagine him arriving looking to relax and rest? Imagine Martha welcoming him. What is Mary doing? Where are you?
See Jesus arrive. Is he by himself or does he have friends with him. What does the land look like? What is the weather like? What time is it? Can you feel the warmth of the sun or the cool of the wind. Notice the sounds. Notice the smells. What is the mood like?

Notice as Martha welcomes Jesus into her home. Who else arrives.
How does Martha greet them?
Where are you?
Notice how Mary now welcomes him.
Jesus finds a seat and makes himself comfortable. How does he seem?
Mary sits with him and listens. What is he saying? Can you hear it?
Now look at Martha who is organising the food. She appears busy What is her mood like? What is she doing? Where is she looking? Does she look towards Jesus and Mary? How do you think she is feeling? What is going on for Martha?
Then Martha annoyed moves towards Jesus and says " “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” What tone does she use? How does she says this?
How does Mary feel and react?
Notice how Jesus then looks at Martha and replies "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
How does he say this? How does he look?
Notice how Martha responds. How does Mary respond? How does Jesus respond? How do I respond?
Let the story continue in your mind. Speak to the people and allow the scene to unfold. Who do you move towards? What happens?
