Why is Mary such a big deal?
"Mary is the Mother of God.
She was united with Jesus on earth as no other human being was or could be."
(YouCat 147)

Mary is also considered the Mother of the Church. So just as mothers carry their children, give birth, nourish care and educate their children, Mary guides us. Mary is our spiritual mother and can support us in our spiritual learning and development. She holds us close and is a wonderful model on how we can live holy lives.
Mary is an amazing example of how we can generously and continuously work with the Holy Spirit. As Pope Paul VI said, she was “firm in her faith, ready in her obedience, simple in humility, exulting in praising the Lord, ardent in charity, strong and constant in the fulfillment of her mission.” (“Signum Magnum: Letter on the Blessed Virgin Mary,” May 13, 1967)

THE ROSARY:
|
The Rosary.
The Rosary walks us through events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. These events are called mysteries. When we hold the crucifix we begin as we pray the Sign of the Cross. Then we pray the Apostles Creed. The next section before the medal of Mary is made up of the Lord's prayer, 3 Hail Mary prayers then a Glory Be to the Father. As we move onto the next Lord's Prayer we think about the first mystery. There are 5 sets of 10 beads called a decade and the pattern of the Lord's Prayer, 10 Hail Mary's, and a Glory Be continues with each new mystery. |
The Scriptures record Mary speaking 7 Times:
"Here I am the servant of the Lord, let it be with me according to your word." Luke 1:38 "How can this be since I am a virgin" Luke 1:34 "My soul magnifies the Lord..." Luke 1:46 "...Mary entered the house and greeted Elizabeth." Luke 1:40 "Child why have you treated us like this?" Luke 2:48 "They have no wine" John 2:3 "Do whatever he tells you" John 2:5 |
